September 21, 2011 -ANNOUNCEMENT!!! - JAZZ JAM

Over the Summer Sheryll, Dave Rego, Gail and I got together a couple of time to try to play a few jazz numbers. We're eager to continue this Fall and everyone who wants to join in is very welcome. The next jam is at my house the evening of Oct 21st.

I live at 9 Oaklands Ave (one long block from the Summerhill Subway station between Yonge and Avenue Road).

We have been working on a couple of Monk numbers, Girl from Ipanema, and other straight forward pieces. Anyone who is interested should contact Dave or Sheryll who can email you the sheet music. We're all beginners so it's a great opportunity for anyone who would like to learn to play jazz to get started.

If you can't make this one just let us know you're interested and we'll make sure you hear about the next jam.

October 11 - Tuesday Group - great rehearsal last night! It was so nice to be back in the Clinic Hall and to see everyone there. So, now that we have worked through the book up to #49 it is time to take a little breather to review, use and practice what we've leraned. Next week's "assignments": #22 to 84bpm, #23 memorize at least first 4 bars, write out #39, Rattlers Ridge to bar 30 is up to you now, practice the chromatic scale going up (#185) - try to get it perfect up to 72bpm.

Note for next week: I would like to see EVERYONE at 7:30 (not just trumpets and flutes, we're going to learn this all together).

Sept. 29/11 - Friday group - we will be meeting in the Salvation Army Hall again. See you there. Bring your pencils and a few extra sheets of paper.

Sept. 29/11- Thanks to the Tuesday group for such an amazing "roll with the punches" attitude". I felt we managed to salvage a great night and got a lot of important theory covered. Thank you. I hope that next week we will be able to apply all that theory to Grapevine. In the meantime, have a look at your parts: mark them - in pencil- practice saying the rhythm first then play each bar or phrase slowly - it has to be perfect so don't rush yourself. Any questions or frustrations, please call me!!! We'll give it a try next week. Until then, be good to yourself. Click below to hear the opening of Grapevine...

Looking forward to a new season of music, friends and fun!!!
